Not to put too cynical a point on criticising your advice, but how about doing more storytelling and less underexposure!

The trick to “cinematic-looking” photography is to condense a story into one frame, a single still image. That’s an art unto itself, not an amalgamation of techniques. I can say that as a still photographer, myself, who has been hired by many producers to work on many motion picture sets, working with some of the greatest directors, cinemaphotographers, and film crews in the industry.
