How complicated can it be, not to bill your friends and family for photographs? That’s a no-brainer.
For the “others” you refer to, well, it’s not complicated either. Irrespective of passion or talent, you either don’t know how to bill them or they see little value in your work.
Do you have an axe to grind with professionals; i.e., those who adhere to best practices and actually do get paid (often paid handsomely) to provide photographic services—so they can feed their families by channeling their own passions and talents? Who are you to imply that yours take precedence? How arrogant!
